Why Cannabis edibles?

Spread the love

So why make all this effort and dedicate an entire site to marijuana edibles?  The simple answer is our belief and desire to facilitate marijuana education.  From our perspective ingesting marijuana via edibles has numerous benefits compared to traditional smoking methods.

Discretion

Many individuals share the same sentiments towards marijuana smoking.  The end result of relaxed euphoria is very enjoyable, but how do people feel about the marijuana smoke itself.  Yes, smoking marijuana is fast and convenient, but the smell from the smoke is not discrete.  Although current North American attitude towards marijuana use is much more accepting, there is still substantial social stigma attached to its usage.  For whatever reason you choose to use marijuana, but would like to keep the matter private, then edibles may be the preferred method for you.

Not a smoker

Most of us are not smokers.  Inhaling hot smoke of any kind can cause inflammation of the respiratory system.  Marijuana smoke can result in increased carcinogen concentrations due to the deeper inhalation into the lungs.  Edibles are a healthy alternative for those who are health conscious and don’t want their enjoyment of marijuana impeding an active lifestyle.

Cost Effective

When you cook marijuana, essentially every bit of the plant can be salvaged.  The THC from the trim, defective buds and other harvested marijuana that usually goes to waste (i.e. parts not suitable for smoking) can be used in cooking through decarboxylation.

Longer Lasting Effects

The effects of using marijuana including effective pain relief has varying degrees of effect depending on the individual.  Typically, smoking marijuana will have a lasting effect of approximately 1 to 3 hours, while ingesting marijuana edibles can last for 3 to 7 hours.  Consuming edibles does not take effect as fast as smoking, but if you desire a longer lasting effect, then edibles is the preferred method.

Rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants

It’s been found that cannabis leaves are high in various vitamins, minerals and fiber

  • Vitamin K

Provides assistance in blood clotting, bone metabolism and regulating blood calcium levels.  Vitamin K supports the maintenance of strong bones, improves bone density and decreases the risk of fractures.

  • Vitamin C

Repairs and regenerate tissues, help protect against heart diseases and decrease LDL (bad cholesterol).

  • Iron

Assist body in production of hemoglobin in red blood cells (helps carry oxygen to the various parts in a human body).

  • Calcium

Primarily promotes bone health and prevention of osteoporosis.

  • Folate

Encourages cell and tissue growth.  Also, plays a role in DNA synthesis and repair.

  • Antioxidants

Antioxidants benefit the body by neutralizing and removing the free radicals (associated with human disease, including cancer, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and many others) from the bloodstream.

Once again Why Edibles?

Despite marijuana edibles numerous benefits, consumption and use entails a critical flaw.  That flaw is that consuming edibles typically has varying effects depending on the individual and most often users can’t feel the THC effects immediately.  As such, it is much easier to over-dose or under-dose with edibles than smoking marijuana.  It is exactly because of this potential danger that there is a need for more education for edible consumption.  With that in mind, our EdiMeals website aims to educate individuals on safe edible consumption via recipes and community discussions.
